Good morning! Today is Friday, June 6, 2025.

We have some exciting AI news today: Anthropic has introduced Claude Gov, a specialized AI model tailored for U.S. defense and intelligence agencies, and Google has released a preview of its upgraded Gemini 2.5 Pro model, boasting enhanced capabilities for developers.

1. Anthropic Launches Claude Gov for U.S. Military and Intelligence Agencies

Anthropic has unveiled Claude Gov, a new version of its AI model built specifically for U.S. defense and intelligence work. Designed to analyze classified data and assist with threat assessment, Claude Gov features looser guardrails and enhanced capabilities in language and document understanding relevant to national security. The launch places Anthropic in direct competition with OpenAI’s ChatGPT Gov, as tech companies increasingly pitch advanced AI tools to government agencies. While the model is already in use at high levels of national security, Anthropic says it remains committed to safety testing and limited use under strict contracts.

2. Google Launches Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview with Major Upgrades for Developers

Google has released a preview of its most advanced AI model yet, Gemini 2.5 Pro, offering major performance boosts in coding, reasoning, and scientific problem-solving. Now available through Google AI Studio, Vertex AI, and the Gemini app, the updated model tops multiple industry benchmarks, including LMArena and WebDevArena. Designed with developer feedback in mind, Gemini 2.5 Pro aims to close the gap with OpenAI by delivering smarter, faster, and more capable tools for real-world applications.

3. Anthropic Cuts Off Windsurf Amid OpenAI Acquisition Rumors

Anthropic has cut off Windsurf’s direct access to its Claude AI models, with co-founder Jared Kaplan confirming the move was driven by rumors that OpenAI is acquiring the coding assistant startup. “It would be odd for us to sell Claude to OpenAI,” Kaplan said, emphasizing the company’s desire to prioritize long-term partners. The sudden shift has disrupted Windsurf’s operations, forcing it to scramble for new infrastructure. Anthropic is now focusing on its own coding tools, like Claude Code, and doubling down on partnerships it sees as sustainable.

4. Microsoft Offers Free AI-Powered Cybersecurity to European Governments

Microsoft has launched a new cybersecurity program that it’s offering to European governments for free, aiming to strengthen defenses against a rising wave of AI-driven cyberattacks. The initiative, announced by Microsoft President Brad Smith, focuses on improving intelligence-sharing and helping institutions defend against threats from state-linked actors in countries like Russia, China, and Iran. Microsoft says attackers are using generative AI to scale operations, but it believes AI can be an even stronger tool for defense if deployed effectively.

5. Cursor Maker Anysphere Hits $9.9 Billion Valuation with $900M Raise

AI coding startup Anysphere, known for its popular assistant Cursor, has raised $900 million at a staggering $9.9 billion valuation. The funding round, led by Thrive Capital with backing from Andreessen Horowitz and Accel, comes as the company rockets past $500 million in annualized revenue. Cursor has become a favorite among developers, with revenue doubling every two months and a shift toward enterprise licensing now fueling even faster growth. Despite acquisition interest from giants like OpenAI, Anysphere is staying independent as it dominates the AI coding space.

6. Google Adds Interactive Finance Charts to AI Mode for Smarter Stock Analysis

Google is rolling out new interactive charts in AI Mode to make financial data easier to understand. Now, when you ask questions about stocks or mutual funds, you’ll get visual graphs and clear explanations tailored to your query. Want to compare blue chip CPG stock performance in 2024 or check which companies paid dividends? AI Mode handles the research and presents it with charts you can explore. Powered by Gemini’s advanced reasoning, the feature is now live in Labs for hands-on testing.
