Good morning! Today is Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
We have some exciting AI news today: Huawei is pushing its Supernode 384 architecture to rival Nvidia's AI systems, and Mistral AI is emerging as a formidable OpenAI competitor with its open-source models.

1. Huawei Unveils Supernode AI Architecture to Rival Nvidia and Power Next-Gen AI Models
Huawei is ramping up its push into high-performance AI computing with the launch of its Supernode 384 architecture, built on its Ascend AI processors. Designed to compete with Nvidia’s powerful systems, Supernode 384 links hundreds of chips to overcome data bottlenecks and enable massive AI model training. It delivers impressive speed and scalability, claiming up to 750 tokens per second on advanced models like Alibaba's Qwen. The architecture skips traditional computing designs in favor of faster, more efficient connections, reflecting Huawei’s strategy to outmaneuver U.S. tech restrictions through innovation at scale.

2. France’s Mistral AI Gains Steam as Europe’s Top OpenAI Rival
Mistral AI is quickly becoming Europe’s leading challenger to OpenAI, fueled by a $6 billion valuation, strong national support, and a growing suite of models and partnerships. Its chat assistant, Le Chat, recently hit 1 million downloads on mobile, backed by public endorsements from French President Emmanuel Macron. The company offers a mix of open-source and proprietary AI models, including tools for coding, multimodal tasks, and OCR, and has secured strategic deals with Microsoft, Nvidia, AFP, and the French military. With talk of a future IPO, Mistral is racing to scale its revenue to match its bold ambitions.

3. Altman and Ive's Mystery AI Device Faces Make-or-Break Moment for AI Gadgets
OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Apple design legend Jony Ive are teaming up to build a mysterious new AI gadget under a $6.5 billion venture called io. Though details are scarce, the device is expected to be screenless and powered by AI, with ambitious hopes of redefining personal tech—possibly even challenging the smartphone. But with the shadow of past AI gadget flops like Humane’s Ai Pin looming large, the success of io’s project could determine the future of consumer AI hardware. Expectations are sky-high, and the whole industry is watching.
He’s already IPO’d once – this time’s different
Spencer Rascoff grew Zillow from seed to IPO. But everyday investors couldn’t join until then, missing early gains. So he did things differently with Pacaso. They’ve made $110M+ in gross profits disrupting a $1.3T market. And after reserving the Nasdaq ticker PCSO, you can join for $2.80/share until 5/29.
This is a paid advertisement for Pacaso’s Regulation A offering. Please read the offering circular at invest.pacaso.com. Reserving a ticker symbol is not a guarantee that the company will go public. Listing on the NASDAQ is subject to approvals. Under Regulation A+, a company has the ability to change its share price by up to 20%, without requalifying the offering with the SEC.

4. Former Synthesia Cofounder Raises $13M to Build AI That Generates Real 3D Worlds from Text
Matthias Niessner, one of Europe’s top AI 3D researchers and cofounder of Synthesia, has launched a new startup called SpAItial with the bold goal of cracking the "holy grail" of AI: generating full, interactive 3D environments from simple text prompts. Backed by a $13 million seed round led by Earlybird, SpAItial is still early but already boasts a star-studded team with experience from Google and Meta. The startup aims to license its model to developers for use cases ranging from gaming and film to robotics and AR, with the ultimate dream of letting anyone build rich 3D worlds in minutes.

5. Google’s AI Overviews Are Taking Over Search — and Pushing the Web Out of Sight
Google’s shift to AI-first search with Overviews and AI Mode is fundamentally changing how people interact with the internet. Instead of sending users to websites, these tools summarize content directly on Google’s pages, often leaving links as mere footnotes. While convenient for users, this move risks starving the open web of traffic and undermining the ecosystem that built Google’s dominance. As the company races to lead in AI, it appears willing to bury the very web it once championed.

6. Arc Browser Might Be Sold or Open-Sourced as Company Shifts to AI-First Future
The Browser Company is considering selling or open-sourcing its Arc Browser as it pivots focus to building Dia, a simpler, AI-powered browser still in alpha testing. CEO Josh Miller explained that Arc’s experimental design was too complex for most users and suffered from a lack of cohesion. While the company isn’t shutting Arc down, it’s no longer developing new features and faces challenges in open-sourcing it due to shared code with Dia. The shift marks a clear move toward mass-market appeal and AI integration.
