Good morning! Today is Friday, June 13, 2025.
We have some exciting AI news today: Meta has completed a massive $14.3āÆbillion investment in Scale AI to bolster its superintelligence efforts, and Kalshi debuted an AI-generated ad during the NBA Finals.

1. Meta Invests $14.3B in Scale AI and Hires Its 28-Year-Old CEO to Lead Superintelligence Team
Meta just made a bold move by investing $14.3 billion for a 49% stake in Scale AI, valuing the data-labeling startup at $29 billion. But the bigger news is that Scaleās 28-year-old CEO Alexandr Wang is leaving to lead Metaās new superintelligence unit. Wang, a college dropout turned billionaire, is known for building one of the most important data engines powering AI tools like ChatGPT. Meta hopes his business acumen will give it an edge in the AI race, especially as rivals like OpenAI and Google push ahead. Wang will stay on Scaleās board, and Meta says the two companies will deepen their collaboration.

2. A $2,000 AI-Generated Ad Just Aired During the NBA Finals Using Googleās Veo 3
An ad made entirely with AI and a $2,000 budget just ran during the NBA Finals ā and it only took a few days to create. Betting platform Kalshi hired an "AI Filmmaker" to generate the surreal spot using Googleās new text-to-video tool, Veo 3. The bizarre, GTA-inspired ad featured scenes like a cowboy with a chihuahua and someone swimming in a pool of eggs, all promoting unusual bets like egg prices and storm counts. The ad was stitched together from over 300 AI generations and signals just how fast AI-made commercials are hitting mainstream screens.

3. Appleās Smarter Siri Might Not Arrive Until Spring 2026
Appleās highly anticipated Siri upgrade could be delayed until iOS 26.4, expected in spring 2026, according to Bloomberg. Originally previewed at WWDC 2024, the new Siri is designed to understand personal context and perform tasks based on on-screen content. Apple had planned a fall release, but delays pushed it back, with senior execs now pointing to next year. Until then, Siri users will have to wait for the true āApple Intelligenceā experience to finally show up.

4. Disney and Universal Sue AI Giant Midjourney for Copyright Infringement
In a landmark lawsuit, Disney, Universal, and other Hollywood studios are suing AI company Midjourney for allegedly using copyrighted characters like Shrek, Darth Vader, and Homer Simpson to train its image-generation engine without permission. Filed in Los Angeles, the 110-page complaint accuses Midjourney of acting like a āvirtual vending machineā that produces unauthorized copies of iconic IP. This is the first time major film studios have entered the growing legal battle over how AI companies use copyrighted content to build their tools.

5. Google Launches AI-Powered Cyclone Forecast Tool to Help Save Lives
Google DeepMind and Google Research have introduced Weather Lab, a new interactive platform that uses AI to predict the formation, path, and intensity of tropical cyclones up to 15 days in advance. Their experimental model, trained on decades of storm data and atmospheric conditions, outperforms many traditional forecasting systems and is already being used by the U.S. National Hurricane Center. With better predictions, earlier warnings, and the potential to reduce disaster impact, this marks a major leap forward in weather forecasting.

6. AMD Reveals 2027 AI Hardware Plans with New Verano CPUs and MI500X GPUs
AMD has unveiled its ambitious AI roadmap for 2027, announcing a new wave of high-performance hardware including the EPYC Verano CPU, Instinct MI500X GPU, and a next-generation AI rack system. The company plans to push the limits of compute efficiency and scalability, following up its 2026 Helios rack system with an even more powerful platform. While details are still under wraps, AMD's 2027 launch aligns with the debut of TSMCās advanced A16 chip process, setting the stage for a fierce rivalry with Nvidiaās upcoming Kyber system.
