We have some exciting AI news today: xAI is investing $300 million to integrate its Grok chatbot into Telegram, and The New York Times has signed its first AI licensing deal with Amazon.

1. xAI Pays Telegram $300 Million to Bring Grok Chatbot to the Masses
Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, is partnering with Telegram in a $300 million deal to integrate its Grok chatbot directly into the messaging app. The agreement, which includes both cash and equity, will see Grok available across Telegram for one year, with Telegram earning 50% of subscription revenue generated through the app. Grok will soon be accessible to more users and offer features like chat summarization, writing help, sticker creation, and even business support. This move mirrors Meta's recent AI integrations and signals Telegram’s growing role in the AI chatbot race.

2. New York Times Strikes AI Content Deal with Amazon for Alexa and Beyond
The New York Times has signed its first generative AI licensing deal, partnering with Amazon to let the tech giant use its content across AI products like Alexa. Under the multi-year agreement, Amazon can display real-time summaries and excerpts from NYT articles, NYT Cooking, and The Athletic, and also use the data to train its AI models. This move marks a major shift for the publisher, which recently sued OpenAI and Microsoft for unauthorized content use. The deal not only opens a new revenue stream but also helps the Times reach potential readers who aren't yet subscribers.

3. WPP Launches AI-Powered WPP Media to Replace GroupM and Redefine Advertising
WPP has unveiled WPP Media, a fully integrated, AI-driven media company built to deliver personalized advertising at scale. Replacing GroupM, the new entity manages over $60 billion in annual media investment and works with more than 75% of the world’s top advertisers across 80+ markets. Powered by WPP Open and backed by major AI partnerships and yearly investments of £300 million, WPP Media unites creative, data, commerce, and production into one seamless platform. The move reflects WPP's strategy to simplify offerings and lead the industry into the AI era of marketing.

4. AMD Buys Photonics Startup Enosemi to Boost AI System Performance
AMD has acquired silicon photonics startup Enosemi to supercharge its AI system capabilities with faster and more efficient data movement. Enosemi’s photonic integrated circuits will help AMD improve bandwidth and power efficiency through co-packaged optics, a key innovation for handling massive AI workloads. This move builds on AMD’s broader AI push following its acquisitions of Xilinx, Pensando, and ZT Systems, positioning the company to compete head-on with Nvidia by offering full-stack AI solutions across compute, networking, and system architecture.

5. Meta AI Hits 1 Billion Users as Zuckerberg Eyes Paid Features
Meta AI has reached one billion monthly active users across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and other Meta platforms, doubling its user base since last September. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the milestone at Meta’s annual shareholder meeting, highlighting plans to make Meta AI the leading personal assistant through deeper personalization, voice interactions, and entertainment. While the assistant is currently free, Zuckerberg hinted at future monetization with potential paid recommendations or a subscription model, putting Meta on a path to compete directly with apps like ChatGPT.

6. Google Photos Gets Smarter With AI Tools From Pixel Devices
Google Photos is getting a major update that brings powerful AI editing tools — previously exclusive to Pixel devices — to more Android users. The redesigned editor now highlights features like Auto Frame, which can recompose your shots with AI-generated fill-ins, and Reimagine, which lets you add objects to photos just by describing them. A new AI Enhance button also offers instant edits by combining effects like sharpening and object removal. The interface has been simplified for easier access to tools, and a new QR code feature makes album sharing quicker. The update rolls out to Android next month, with iOS to follow.
