No hype. No jargon. Just results.

Good morning! Today is Friday, May 2, 2025.

We have some exciting AI news today: Reddit is expanding its AI-powered 'Answers' feature globally, aiming to enhance user experience by providing direct responses to queries. Meanwhile, Google is rolling out its AI Mode in Search, offering users a more conversational and intuitive search experience.

1. Reddit’s AI Chatbot ‘Answers’ Hits 1M Users — Targeting Google Searchers, Not Just Redditors

Reddit is going beyond community scrollers with its AI-powered tool “Answers,” built for the millions who type “Reddit” into Google to find honest opinions and real-world advice. Now with over 1 million weekly users, Answers surfaces direct, summarized responses from Reddit posts to satisfy seekers who want answers—not discussions. CEO Steve Huffman says the feature will soon integrate into Reddit’s main search bar and onboarding, helping newcomers discover what Reddit knows best. As Reddit doubles down on AI and search, its stock is soaring and usage is surging.

2. Google’s AI Mode Opens to All U.S. Users With Smarter Search and Shopping Features

Google is rolling out AI Mode to all Labs users in the U.S., removing the waitlist and adding powerful new features that make search more helpful and interactive. You can now ask complex questions, compare products, and even find local businesses with visual cards showing ratings, reviews, prices, and more — all in real time. Whether you’re planning a trip, researching a purchase, or picking a dinner spot, AI Mode now helps you go from query to confident decision faster than ever.

3. Zuckerberg’s AI Ad Vision: No Agencies, No Creatives—Just Results

In a bold interview, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg laid out a future where businesses can skip ad agencies entirely—just tell Meta your goal, connect a bank account, and let AI do the rest. From generating product photos and writing copy to targeting, testing, and measuring ad performance, Meta aims to automate the entire advertising process. While small businesses might benefit from this hands-free model, ad industry leaders are alarmed, calling the approach “scary” and warning that trusting Meta to “check their own homework” could redefine—and disrupt—the entire ad ecosystem.

4. Nvidia Warns U.S. Lawmakers About Huawei’s Rapid AI Rise

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang met privately with U.S. lawmakers to voice concerns over Huawei’s growing AI power, warning that export restrictions on Nvidia’s chips may inadvertently fuel global demand for Huawei’s alternatives. The discussion highlighted fears that Chinese AI models like DeepSeek could be optimized for Huawei chips, further boosting their appeal. As Huawei gears up for mass chip shipments, Nvidia urged policymakers to invest in U.S. AI infrastructure to stay competitive.

5. Google’s Medical AI AMIE Gets a Major Upgrade — Now It Can “See”

Google DeepMind has upgraded its diagnostic AI agent, AMIE, with vision capabilities, allowing it to analyze images like skin photos or X-rays during text-based medical chats. Built on the Gemini 2.0 Flash model, AMIE now emulates a real doctor’s process more closely — requesting tests, interpreting visuals, and refining diagnoses in real time. In a study simulating real-world consultations, AMIE outperformed primary care physicians in diagnostic accuracy, empathy, and management planning. Early tests with the newer Gemini 2.5 show even more promise, moving AI one step closer to supporting real clinical care.

6. Eric Schmidt-Backed FutureHouse Launches AI Tools to Speed Up Scientific Discovery

FutureHouse, the nonprofit backed by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, has released its first AI tools aimed at accelerating science. The platform includes four models — Crow, Falcon, Owl, and Phoenix — that can search academic literature, map prior research, and even help design chemistry experiments. While the tools boast transparent reasoning and access to high-quality scientific data, they haven’t yet produced any groundbreaking discoveries. FutureHouse hopes rapid user feedback will improve the tech and bring us closer to building a true "AI scientist."
